Six months of craziness

The first six months of 2010 have been crazy for Hurricane Web Publishing. I was fortunate enough to add the Northern Ontario Curling Association to our Playdowns.com web application for the 2009-2010 Curling season. The whole month of February was a thrill of a lifetime working for NBC at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver as their researcher for Curling. The hours were long but I was treated great by NBC. Since February, I’ve been working hard with my current clients and new clients. Now that things are back to normal HWP is available to add new clients. I recently completed websites for Holly’s Salons and Schools, Manion and Associates Financial Services Ltd. and Creekside Fire Protection Ltd. The first two sites were designed and developed within the Squarespace content management system and Creekside the Wordpress content management system. Squarespace is a nice service and easy to update sites for myself and clients but it’s less flexible for changing code. Wordpress allows designers and developers to get deep within the code and customize it quite a bit, but it’s somewhat more complex for clients who may be less experienced computer users.

Holly’s Salons and Schools

Holly’s Salons and Schools came to us looking for a website to be designed and developed for them after visiting another one of our client’s website - Salon Gloss. Holly wanted a hip yet gender neutral site to showcase her salon as well as for her cosmetology training facility in North Vancouver, British Columbia.

Website Realignments for Curl BC

Hurricane Web Publishing originally completed a complete redesign of Curl BC’s website in 2008. Since then, Curl BC has been diligent in keeping their site up-to-date with changes each year. They’ve realized that having a site evolve over time instead of a complete revolution every few years is time and cost effective.

Playdowns.com Website Enhancements

The Curling scoring website was updated with design and social media enhancements. A mobile version was also completed so smart phone users can view an optimized version on their handsets.

Advance Material Handling Ltd. (2008)

HWP created an industrial but friendly look for Advance Material Handling Limited’s first website. They have been in business building custom lifts and conveyors for industrial and residential purposes for over 30 years.

Redesigned

I finally got around to redesigning the website. HWP has been busy with other projects that redesiging our site was not a high priority. I haven’t been really happy with the previous design, which had been there for a few years, and wanted something that would display Hurricane Web Publishing’s portfolio better and make it less complicated as a one page site.
